It suddenly occurred to me that I might be able to hide the inlets and outlets of my filters behind a background made of pond liner. Anyone ever try this? Is there a reason why this isn't a common thing?

well, two things, if you use it outside of your tank, it's more expensive than the normal plastice background, and if you use it inside your tank, it may obstruct the flow of your filter intake, and water movement might be compromised.

If you use it on the outside of the tank to help conceal wires and such and you already have it, I think it will be fine.

I'm talking about inside the tank. And naturally I would cut it so that the filter inlets and outlets wouldn't be obstructed - but at least the tubes would be hidden.
