cant figure out my sink to hook up stuff to it to refill my tank. im making 20 trips up and downstairs to fill my 55 back up after a vac/water change.

i need something like a python i guess, though im not positive how exactly the refilling part works as far as connecting it to the sink goes.
i need it to include a long hose.(it needs to go from my kitchen, up my stairs, into my room.)

if anyone has anything like a python to sell, let me know. rly dont want to spend $80.

thanks

There are no water fixtures closer? Shower heads? Hoses outside? The Python has a standard adapter, but it can be swapped out with any number of adapters from a plumbing or home improvement store.

Look around for a diy instruction. I believe I have seen one somewhere.

Otherwise get a pythin and extensions. But thats gonna cost 80+

you may have to unscrew the mesh thing on the end of the tap to get the threads that screw the python in
did that for mine

oh, that's what i have to do? unscrew the mesh screen thing? i didnt know that, was trying to figure it out forever. thank you for that bit of info.
but still, theres no hoses at home depot that connect to the faucet adapter that are safe.. only garden hoses.
no water things upstairs. theres a hose outside, but that water is freezing and i heard you shouldnt use a regular garden hose to fill tanks up.

mine came with a adapter that fits the kitchen faucet and you can buy one that fits a garden hose

My resolve is the shower.
Kinda getto, but it works.
Total cost was about $17 with the bulk hose from Lowes.

you can try ordering the parts for the python over the web, atleast the male/female connector and a connector for the sink. And just get the hose at home depot/lowes for very cheap.

In my new home, the sink is one piece. That's kind of a dumb design, because if anything gets clogged, I have no way to open the faucet up to get to it. What I ended up doing is getting an adapter to my shower head and removing it when I want to use the Python. It's pretty simple.

thanks guys
i want to just get the stuff from home depot.
is a garden hose safe though? i heard it wasnt and i heard it was, so idk.
i couldnt find any of that clear tubing there. i looked in plumbing and in the garden section, would it be somewhere other than that?

I've been using garden hose to fill my tank for over a year now. The hose had been used for a few years before that though so it may have flushed out anything there to be flushed. In the plumbing aisle they do sell hose by the foot, but its a little pricier than garden hose. 3/4" ID hose is about $0.75 per foot I think.

1/2" clear tubing from Lowes $0.24 - $0.38 foot, I don't remember which.
It's usually near the the gas/black pipe and threader.

As far as removing water from the tank, if you access to outside, on the same floor or lower floor, you can syphon downhilll easily or you can attach a pump to your python and pump away. I think the included instructions with the phython allow for a large waste of water.

yeah, fortunately i figured out that i could gravel vac/siphon water out with a regular hose. thanks though. i cant imagine how long the water changes on the 55 would take me if i was using gallon jugs for the whole empty and fill process.

I bought a tap adapter ($.99 at Walmart)for the sink to hook up a garden hose. I also have an powerhead that I use to vacuum and drain for WC then use hose to refill. You can get a drinking water safe hose for about $25, same for a cheap powerhead with hose. (I Have to do it this way for tanks in the basement and only water source is washer tap).

I got my adapter from the hardware store....was about 5 buck I think. I didn't like the plastic connector that came with mine so I just took the facut attachment with me and said I need something to make this connect to my sink. The guy found a part for me and it works great!

Wow thats a good deal. If its not long enough, easy to extend the hose as well.

wow, thanks for that link midiamin!
i think i should get it, but i need the hose longer. i trust it's easy, but how would i go about extending the hose? buy a part online or at a LFS?
why is the python $80 at the LFSs near me? does this kit not include something that the python includes?

When you buy a python you're paying a lot for the brand name, as there isn't anything in the kit that is particularly expensive.

To extend the hose, you'll just need a double ended barb fitting, probably 1/2", from home depot - about 50 cents, and however much hose you want to add on.

Check with the seller and ask all you questions.
