I have an opportunity to buy a used Eheim Ecco 2233 filter. Would it be appropriate for a 37 gallon planted aquarium?

it should be fine. although, i would add a small power filter to supplement filtration, but that is me.

I can't seem to find anything on a 2233. I started with an Ecco 2232 on my 36 gallon tank. I was dissappointed with the flow, so I changed it to a 2236, and used the installation kit spray bar. I am very happy with them.

Nope, for me. Go bigger.

they recommend a 2232 for a 35gal, and the 2234 is for a 65gal. I do not know what they say for the 2233. I am planning on using my 2233 for a 20L.

It *should* work fine for a basic planted 36, but if it is heavily planted you may want an additional powerhead/filter to help with flow. Just keep an eye on it. Oh, and stocking would also have a factor in that.
