I should have gotten one to begin with! I love it. I only have a few peices of rocks and 4 African Cichlids in it now to cycle it up then I will be adding more!
here are some pics of it and some pics of the Cichlids, along with my other tanks.
Can anyone identify them? They were given to me. I think the one is a yellow labino, the two blue ones are johanni, though the smaller blue one looks a tad different, and the white is an albino zebra, I'm not too familiar with cichlids (never had them) so I'm not sure if the names are right.

Nice tanks! Where do you get your slate from? Love the look of it, I just can never find any nice pieces around where I live. I once grabbed some from a local creek and boiled it prior to use, but it still made my tank have a bad brown algae outbreak. Love your tanks though!

The white one is an albino socolofi, the blue one with black lines on its fins is either an elongatus or a stressed socolofi, the blue with a horizonal stripe is a johanni and the orange appears to be a red zebra, kinda pale so could be a male, but still early to tell.
Nice fish, you should get more mbuna and add them in all together at the same time to avoid later aggression.

I find the slate rock in a creek about 1/2 a mile down in the woods behind my house. I never boiled it I soaked it in salt in the bathtub for about an hour in hot water then scrubbed each peice with a scrubbing pad under hot water till no dirt came off. I haven't had any problem with algea but its only been about a week. I'll let you know how it does in the future!

How are you cycling it? Do you use a filter from an established tank?

Should be a fast cycle, ideally I would add all fish with as less time in between as possible to avoid any one fish being singled out by the already established fish in the tank.
What are your water parameters now?

It's only been two days since I added them, The ammonia stage hasnt even set in yet.

Cool, use this time to gather more rocks, and put them in when you get new fish, so it'll be like breaking up territories (even though I don't think they really claim much as juvies) and make up new and more territories for all your fish.

That's a good idea. It'll give me time to plan out a nice looking setup too!

I think you mean 29g, the 20g houses my 2 goldfish and is not pictured. I will probably venture into live plants later. I have more reading/research to do before I try them.
I will do more rockscaping once it has cycled, and I get more fish!

Thanks guys. Here is the new stand I built for all my tanks last night . It's made of 4x4 and 2x4s all pressure treated. It's solid as a rock, and it only cost 40 bucks to build!

Update on this. it's almost cycled so I figured i'd add more rockscape. Here's how it went, there about 75-100lbs of rock in there.
