hey all. sorry i haven't really been around...i'm super busy with school and work, and on top of it all my computer hasn't been working:wall:. but i have what i think might be a problem...

i have a colony of yellow polyps that has always done well. when i got it there were like 14 or so polyps, and it grew to over 40 in a matter of a couple of months. but, over the past couple of weeks, they've changed. they've got a reddish tint to them, and the polyps are closed more than usual. also, even when they are open they're not as large, tall, or as open as they were. they're probably only about half the size they used to be. has anyone experienced this??

my water params are great, trate 0, sg 1.026, ca 460, amm 0, ph 8.2, etc etc etc. i do a 15ish% water change weekly with ro/di water. the only thing i've changed is the brand of mysid shrimp i'm feeding my fish. could this have been the trigger to bring on these symptoms? all my other corals are doing just fine, it's only the yellow polyps that seem to be affected. any help/ideas will be very appreciated.

My yellow polyps started getting a reddish tint to them as well. It turned out that it was the dreaded cyano bacteria. What was happening was that the cyano was growing over the polyps and covering them. The cyano then spread to my green star polyps and were covering that too. I had to readjust my powerheads to get more flow and that seemed to help.

Do you have a photo?

thanks for the advice. i was afraid that's what the problem might be. do i need to try and scrub it off?? i'm moving apartments tomorrow so when i get moved i'll adjust the flow in the tank to be more condusive to getting rid of it. i don't have a pic. after i get moved i'll try and get a pic up next week at some point. but nothing else in the tank has any red tint to it. could the cyano selectively grow on the yellow polyps? i've been watching it closely and it's not growing on anything else....ah the joys of the marine aquarium hobby. so many unknowns...

Have you inspected for nudibranchs?
