just got 2 albino oscars, they are well cool.
I read about sexing oscars and this guy was saying when they have fed their vents show, males point backwards and are pointed, females point forward and are thicker.
Although still small mine would point to being males.
Will two males live together when larger?
4 ft tank with 2 oscars and 2 sailfin plecs.
Life is good!
Any comments
cheers Het

how many gallons is the tank? 2 oscars usually will live peacefully in a 115 gallon tank, but I would give a bit bigger like 130. They may sparr every once and a while, but theres usually not alot of damage done..

Make sure to cycle the tank first if you have the ability to do so!
4ft. is a 75 gallon tank, isn't it? That's barely enough for a single O.

Never mind, I see that you've got them already...I'd suggest investing in a larger tank (6'+) for their long-term benefit.

thanks I see your points, but i would have to move house before i could put a 6'+ fish tank in my house and my house isn't small.
I've read on this forum people saying they were getting a 500gallon tank-what are the measurements of that???
I'll have to hope they get on as well as they are doing now.
The guy at the lfs said they would be fine, they have been selling fish for 30+ years. Are US gallons different to UK gallons?
thanks Het

The orange on them may increase with age, but don't hold your breath too much for it...fish are variable in how much color change they have during the maturation process...

Unfortunately, few take pix of their Albinos, it seems...maybe somebody at AC could help a little bit, too?

I have a pair of coppery-orange Oscars in a 75 gallon tank for 2 years, and they get along great...they're not huge...one's about 8" and one's about 9"...they're inseperable buddies...they don't eat live food (wife can't take watching it), so they probably won't get much bigger...they are a bit retarded sometimes, whenever a door slams, or something makes a loud noise, they slam their heads into the wall or rocks, then float sideways for a few seconds like they've knocked themselves out, then they're fine...they also have 5" red-tail shark that lives with them...been together since they were all about an inch...friendliest fish you could ever ask for, they love to watch TV and try to bite the cat's tail when she sits on the aquarium...

I used to have a tiger albino and a red albino. The red albino's orangish color became brighter with age (though he had an ugly mug:D), but the tiger's depleted with age. This was all before I knew much about fish keeping and had 5 oscars in a 75, yikes! The other 3 had great colors though.

One method of trolling is posting a reply that does not contribute to the thread nor is it pertinent to it...
