10 gallon filter for 55 gallon

im using a 10 gallon whisper for my 55 gallon tank
i had a big problem over the weekend and had
to transfer my fish over to my new tank
my emperor 400 is coming sometime this week

how bad is using the 10 gallon for now ?

That filtration wouldn't nearly be enough, I think the turnover rate for a 10g filter is something like 30GPH. Even if it was higher it's still not close to being enough. You should be using something that has a turnover that's 8x your tank capacity. The pengiun 400 will be fine when you get it. If you absolutely HAVE to use the 10g, use it. BTW what exactly was the problem? Maybe we can help take care of it so you can use the 10g again.

I have probably the same Whisper 10 gallon filter, and the box says 85GPH I believe.

For as short of a term that you are talking about, I don't think you will have a problem. Just reduce your feedings dramatically. I would recommend only feeding every other day until the 400 comes in. Of course, once the 400 comes in, leave the small filter on the tank for awhile as you'll want to keep that beneficial bacteria there....

my filter got turned off
for about 5 hours
i come back and the whole tank is cloudy all fish swiming at the top of tank
so i do like a 30 percent water change and take out the dead bala
i wait a bit and the water is still not clearing so i vac the bottom a bit and do a small water change
the fish seem ok after this and are swiming at the bottom again a bit after
the last bala flips over and looks like it about to die
so im thinking i got a bacteria bloom thats taking all the oxygen
i take out all the fish put in the big tank put in bio spira
and dismantle old tank
i was going to take it apart anyway but was going to
wait for new filter
i had no choice i dont think
fish would of survived in that tank
it also had those little worm planeria that just appeared

how long do you think i should run the emperor and the whiper together?
could i just take out the whiper cartridge and put it somplace in the emperor?

You could do that also...there should be plenty of room in the emperor to put that cartridge in there.....
