So today i went out and bought a small colony of sunflower polyps.I put them in my tank, all the cups were closed. After about 1hr or so some of them started to bulge,But have not shown any tentacles. what can i do to get them to open up? I was reading but many places say they only open at night?

i am assuming you are talking about a standard suncoral.
Their polyps are usually only open at feeding time or at night. To get them to open during the day, or to feed them during the day, you usually have to first blast them with food to get their tenticals to open up.
Some people say you can "train" then to open up during the day. But in reality, you would just have to feed all day...

Try something like cyclopeeze squirted around them, that's how I usually get mine to open up. Mine used to be very slow opening, but now they're open most of the day.

Time! Give them time... Make sure they're in a low light low flow area.

I put a glass over mine and put in a brine shrimp cube in there. They take a LONG time to open up - if I don't cover them everyone in the tank eats their food before they can get to it. Once open, mine stay open for awhile. Mine are only a few days old though so...?

Looking good. Although there a couple of dead ones there, I also see you have a couple of "babies" which is always a good sign:grinyes: I would advise that you move it off the sand though. They don't like sand getting into their polyps which can cause them not to open. A low rock out of the light if possible?

yyou can entice them open by feeding , sometimes it takes a good hour sometimes very short time .
Yip they normally open at night and for food.
I use shrimp pellets lol one for each , s well as other stuff, but they seem to love the shrimp pellets .

Hanging them upside down or in shaded areas are options but not necessary.
What have you tried feeding them so far and what has been the results?
