Do snails in the QT pose any real problem for harboring/spreading disease/bacteria/parasites/fungus - any or all of the above?
I seem to have inadvertantly spread snails to my QT when I added some floating plants. I respect snails, but want to know if I should make an effort to eliminate them from this bare tank for health and/or national security reasons.

While we are near the topic, should I eliminate the floating plants too? I added them to help buffer the water and provide some sort of natural environment in an otherwise featureless, barebottom waterlogged prison.
Thanks

I have plants & a couple snails in my Q tank. If you've had snails for a while it's probably OK, I believe the diseases carried by snails often need another host (bird etc) to become infected.
Be aware that any meds you need to use may kill the snails (maybe plants too) & pollute the water.
I have read of some flukes using snails as intermediate hosts. If your snails happen to be infected they could end up infecting the fish.
And as fishorama has already pointed out, many fish meds will kill snails.

having a bunch of snails in a tank makes it that much more difficult to break down the tank for a full sterilization between uses.

I agree that meds and sterilization will be a problem.
