Can I put a 36 watt bulb in a 55 watt starter unit?

My first instinct is to guess it would fry it, but people overdrive bulbs regularly. I hear of Icecap 660 or whatever overdriving T5s all the time. I'd try it, but I admittedly wreck stuff regularly. Best to wait for someone more knowledgeable than myself.
What type of 36w bulb into what type of 55w starter unit? Is it power compact (PC) -- guessing based on wattage? If so, the pin spacing or configuration may not be the same to begin with, but there are exceptions.
Without knowing more, my initial suggestion would be not to do it.
