Fish attaining their adult colors

I have Malawi cichlids that for the most part were purchased through my lfs.How old do most fish have to get before they take on their adult colors?

I take it your talking about haps and peacocks. They usually start showing color at around 2 1/2-3 1/2" depending on which ones your talking about.
