First off I got two new shrooms today for $10. I like them and one of them has already attached! Thats the first pic. In the second pic are two shrooms I have had for about three weeks. When I attached these two shrooms to this rock, there were only two but now there are about five. I thought when a shroom split it split into equal halfs, not into a big one and a baby one. Anyway does this one on the right look like it is getting ready to split?

Mushrooms can also tear off a piece at the base where they are attached to a rock that becomes a new mushroom. This happens most often in my tank -- they move slowly across a rock, leaving behind little pieces that grow into new mushrooms. The only mushrooms I've had split into two halves in my tank are Florida Ricordeas and Yuma Ricordeas. I don't know how common it is for other types of mushrooms to split in half... I've just never noticed it happen in my tank.

Fussy mushrooms and rics tend to split (IME) and the discoma seem to walk and leave the little shrooms behind.
