The past few weeks i have noticed an oily film on the surface of the water in my puffers tank. The intake on my HOB filter was way low and was only pulling from the bottom of them tank,so i did a simple Mod to it.Its nothing special or extravagant its very simple.

I made an overflow system with 1 1/4" PVC and an endcap for said PVC,thats all it took. The Pipe is slipped under the intake and water falls into the open end of the pipe, taking all of that oily skum and any floating particulate from the surface of the water, and now my water is sparkling. No air in my filter, running smoothly all day.

I have found that the oily film tends to be caused by the crap they freeze food in, I rinse it with tank water and strain it before I put it in the tank.

When i do get the oil paper towels on the surface breifly pretty much take care of it.

That said, your mod is even better :)
