Well, first off, I purchased a Yellow Rose Antenna goby (see my avatar) a long time ago. The little fishie took a liking to my pistol shrimp (the red and white striped variety). I picked up another small goby, and the next day, the two were both dead. My 'fuge has another pistol shrimp and shrimpgoby in it, and that goby was perfectly fine. By introducing another antenna goby, did I unknowingly put the two of them into a deathmatch? My water parameters all checked out... I've since taken one pistol back to the store (along with some crabs) and decommissioned the 'fuge tank, it's too hard to maintain both tanks with no clearance between them (algae on the glass, and the glass is inaccessible).

I've sorta decided not to buy anymore stock for my tank, once it gets down to some low level (like just a shrimp and fish), I might shut it down completely. =\ I really wish I could do something other than a 10 gallon tank! I've been vetoed every time I try to go to a larger tank, either a 37 tall (perfect size, matches the footprint of my tank stand), or a custom made 20X20X25 tall acrylic tank (just $100 + $20 for a top + shipping)... I dunno what to do. :( I will remain comitted to keeping my animals alive and happy, though, or they go back to the LFS.

Sorry for your losses. Sadly it is highly possible they fought to death. It is not recommended you add similar species or same species together in a nano, especially when one has already claimed the tank and established itself.

It sounds like you have the right idea about waiting for live stock. What do you currently have and what did you want to add?

Sorry for your losses. I agree with FD, it does sound like they were fighting and were too evenly matched hence why they both died.

I've got 4 or 5 blue legged hermits, a yellow shrimp goby, a pistol shrimp, and an emerald crab. I was thinking about maybe getting another feather duster... And about 14 lbs of live rock. Probably more, 14 sounds a little on the low side.

I'm considering catching and returning my emerald crab because it's huge, and it keeps knocking my live rock over. >_<

you might check with your local reef club, I bet someone would buy the crab from you for more than you'll get at the LFS. Or swap you something you want for it, which is even more fun!

I don't think you should give up, just concentrate on making it a nice nano tank. Start collecting zoanthids and cool mushrooms. Look at other nano reefs for ideas. Get some sexy shrimp to add a little activity. I love my green clown goby I have in my 9 gallon nano. He's finally sitting out where he's viewable now and he's totally cute.

don't give up!

The closes reef club is about 300 miles away, I'd spend more on gas getting there than the crab would fetch.

The LFS gave me a good deal on the stuff I already traded in, and I like them, they aren't petsmart or petco or any rubbish like that, it's a locally owned place with a good owner.

The problem with my lfs is that they charge a lot for anything decent. A mushroom is $20, and zoas start at $45. I don't have a job right now, and I can't afford that. Plus, it's a pita keeping the algae off my glass, and I'm just getting tired of cleaning it.
