Hey guys! I know next to nothing about African Cichlids and have begun working the FW gallery at the Ga. Aquarium. Unfortunately nobody within their training program knows any IDs of these and they are referred to generically as "Malawi Cichlids". Of course, I now hate generic references so I want to do some good research, but I've yet to be able to find pics that look close enough for me to trust my own eye. The biologists work during the week only, so I haven't been able to speak with them directly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
lol I see johannis, rusties, zebras galore, venustus, red empres...
check out www.cichlidforum.com (http://www.cichlidforum.com) ; excellent pics, searchable by mbuna, haps and peacock.

Thanks Coler!! I can't believe I forgot about that site.... :wall:
No prob :) It does have a great pic & profile section. Get some individual shots though and we can play our favourite game of identify the Malawi - cool pictures of the aquarium tanks too by the way. I counted like 85 plus fish in the first pic !

I think I have 3 identified so far. There are supposedly only 12 species in the tank so I consider it progress. lol
Would you agree with these?
1. Giant Demasoni (Pseudotropheus sp. "Blue Dolphin")
2. OB Clown (Metriaclima zebra (OB))
3. Black & White Aurutus (Melanochromis parallelus)
I'd love to get individual shots, but for now I'm having to clip from the pics I took of the entire tank. There were just too many people there today. Thanks, I'm having a blast working there! Plus I want to get my hours up there so that I can do some of the REALLY cool stuff.
