we noticed that our new shubunkin, you can see some of her veins in her tail and fins.... I dont see any external parasites, and she looks very health and very active.
Is that normal? should we be worried, we are going to qt. it for a couple weeks.

Keep an eye on it and make sure it doesnt get any worse ... it could be normal, but it might not be. It could possibly be a sign of bacterial septicemia due to poor water conditions. Where did you purchase the fish? What are their tanks like?

we got it at petsupermarket...
there tanks looked pretty good actually.

If it was septicemia, you would see a pinkish cast to all the fins, plus around the head area. It shows up just as much on the body as on the fins, if not more. I've had septicemia in my fish before... very easy to spot.

Then again, not a bad idea to feed an antibacterial food for a week or so to clear out any lurking bugs. :)

thank you... anyone brand of anti-bacterial food?

Here are some crappy pics I took w/ my cell last night.

I forget the brand name but we have some anti bacterial food that works for septicemia.

HELP! problem today!

some bad news.... our new shubunkin was looking perfectly healthy yesterday when we bought her, but today she is very still and leaning over to the side, no labored breathing, but I notices that her poo was VERY long and stringy.... it almost looked like a worm or something when i scooped it out.
we are started it on Gel-Tek Penicillin food gel today....
Thank goodness for QT.... I would be really upset if our other goldies got sick, we love them so much.
Please help!!!! ????? :(

That looks like a pretty decent sized shub. It might be suffering from stress. Test your water and see what the ammonia and nitites are. If it is in a small tank it could be going through a cycle. Also be concerned that a larger fish in a small tank will use up the oxygen very rapidly. You may need to add some aeration to the tank. The change in water chemistry from the pet store to your home could also be a factor.

Because of the stringy poo and the blood streaks in the fins I would be concerned with a bacterial, protozoan, or parasitic infection. When I've had fish like this I've treated with a combo of Maracyn II and malachite green. They all have perked up in a few days and done very well. Others will disagree with this treatment but it has worked well for me.

We put her in a 20gal long. We don't have anything on it but the filter. Do you think she needs more aeration?
its running a Aqua Clear 50 on the short side of the tank at full speed.
