My PetSmart has had a huge three tiered tub that they kept live plants in. Although it often had quite a bit of algae and they put fish in it (which I don't care for for risk of contamination) it was the best place in my town to get live plants.
Well they broke it down about three or four weeks ago and I figured they were getting a new one as they have been updating the shelving and such but today when I went in I saw...
A shelf of plants in plastic tubes with no water in them!
Reasons I dislike this:
They are very small clippings
I can't see what the plant looks like for the huge label
The are genericly labeled with a name, no care instructions.
Doesn't say if they are true aquatic or bog or terrerium plants.
Also, the selection is gone there are maybe four choices.
No more Java Ferns / Vals / Dwarf Hairgrass / Baby Tears, etc.
Is this a new corporate policy? If so it stinks!
petsmart and petco around here both have the plastic tube o plants..
though the petco still has their crappy selection of plants near their turtle display.
I kinda wish i still knew people that worked at the petsmart.. I'd try to talk them into telling me when that 3 tier unit would be by the dumpster.
Ive seen those plants in the tubes for a while at a few of the Petcos here. Some of them are actually true aquatics like amazon sword and tropical fern (java fern) but the rest are non aquatic..

Yeah I was trying to convince the wife that the three tier thing could go in the garage and be like a plexiglass goldfish pond. I don't think she is buying it.

With so many sites dedicated to aquatic plants I haven't bought one from a store in a long time. Post what you are looking for and I'm sure someone here has some to share. I prefer the plantedtank and aquatic plant central for my purchases.
We do have 1 LFS that sells plants but most of their clippings come from me lol.

This is why I avoid shopping at large corporate pet stores for livestock.
Ma and Pops and specialized stores will always be the best for me :)

ni also noticed this and this it's a cechy way for them to sell plants to people who don't know any better. that being said if you really want some plants follow IceH2O suggestion of looking at plantedtank.net and aquatic plant central for plant you can usally find better deals for more plants.
personally just got a whole bundle of plant for 12 shipped from a some one on the planted tank.

my friend got some of those plants in the tubes, put em in his tank and 2 days later they died.....we took the tube back and asked if these were true aquatic plants, and of course the lady didnt know......none were labeled as aquatic or not as some of you have said. they wouldnt give him his money back either.

man that sucks, i would think plants would count as some form of live stock. thay phrase it vary broadly though in there return policy though, "aquatic life" is what petco has on there recites.
ehh even if you do get their aquatic plants you are still getting ripped off with the price/portion. Just order from someone online and get what you paid for (and more)

Mine still has three levels of three-sided plexiglass with water being pumped up the top and flowing down to the bottom.

They got rid of the waterfallish thing at my petsmart about 2 months ago. I still prefer the waterfall thingy.

paypal is the commonly accepted method of payment.
