I just got my aqua lifters in the mail today and Im not 100% sure how they work. My overflow box has a little piece of tubing that apparantly plugs into the aqualifter. However the aqua lifter has two holes, and it makes tons of noise when one hole is open. Am I supposed to just plug it, or what?

No, you place the suction end in the spot made in the u-tube and the other end down into the overflow box (not the pipe, just the box). It will make a continuous suction from the u-tube and into the box, keeping out air bubbles.

that confuses me. the suction end of the aqualifter? does only one side have suction? so i plug the u tube into one hole then place the unit in the overflow box, what about that tube thing? and i dont appear to even have a u tube wiht these.

Yup. The aqualifter has one end that sucks in water and it blows it out the other side. Just turn it on and you should be able to figure out which is which.
Attach a piece or airline tubing to the nipple on the overflow as you have already done and is shown in the pictures.
Then, once you've found which end sucks in water/air, attach the other end of the same piece of airline tubing to that intake in the aqualifter.
Then just take another piece of airline and lead that from the other hole in the aqualifter to the bottom part of your overflow box.
And you are right, the CPR ones dont technically have a U-Tube, it is more a digital clock shaped U-tube, but it does the same thing :P

is the aqualifter supposed to be submerged or out of the water?

out of water. You can leave it on the flat part of the overflow where it is sucking from.
