Overflow placement question

I'm contemplating buying Oceanic's 156 reef ready tank but it seems like the overflows are in a peculiar place. Both overflows are located about 3 inches from the sides of the tank... it seems like this is going to create dead spots in terms of water movement, not to mention useless space in terms of aquascaping. Three inches between the sides and the overflow doesnt leave enough room for putting a powerhead or any live rock. Anyone have any experience with this tank or tanks with similar overflow placement? Does is create the problems I'm imagining... or am I being paranoid?
