are red zebras hard to breed? and what do i need to do to get them to breed?

You will need to keep 3+ females to one male. They will have to be large enough to pair up, 3in is ideal size. The tank will need to be big enough and hiding places for the female once she is holding. You may have to remove the female once she is holding if too much aggression is being displayed. I would recommend feeding some live foods for a couple weeks and turn the temp up to 80. If they are in the mood they will breed fairly easily. They are horny little you know whats.

mine are currently really small. . . how fast do they grow. they are about 1 in right now.

Metraclima zebra? They're fast growers.

Easy to breed. So easy, they'll breed without you even trying. And breed with other species to.

so if i don't have any females will they breed with my blue zebras?

Possibly (anything can happen with mbunas). The actual likelihood of them interbreeding, though, depends on the variables of your tank.

Though, if you've got at least one of each gender of red zebra in your tank then they'll most likely prefer each other.

i have never been that good at sexing. all i KNOW is that both my socolofi are female because they both held eggs when they were in the 75 be4 it leaked. i'm not sure about my yellow labs.

how long does it take for my fish to breed? and how do i know if the eggs are fertilized or not?

The female will hold the eggs in her mouth and tumble them. The eggs if fertilized will hatch in there. She will then carry the fry in her mouth for about three weeks. If they are not fertilized then she will swallow them or spit them out.

so if for 3 weeks she still carries then there is a good chance that they are fertilized? will the hybrids be sexually immature or have any defects? and will the female survive if i don't put her in a recovery tank?
