I am curious to know how much of a bio-load shrimp add to a tank? I have heard that they add very little for their size, is this true? Would a few approximately 3 inch shrimp increase the bio-load in my tank as much as few fish of the same size? How would you compare them to fish in terms of bio-load, how many shrimp equals what size fish?

What kind of 3" shrimp are you getting? Most common shrimp are significantly smaller.

I consider Amanos, Red Cherry, Southern Marsh shrimp all about the same as large female guppy or medium platy.

Macrobrachium shrimp it depends entirely on what type you have - some get huge - about a foot, most are smaller.

Wood/singapore shrimp 3-6" for the common types, but there are some very chunky ones from that group too.

Ghost shrimp I consider about the same as a Cherry Barb.
