OK, so today was my big day for transferring the contents of my 29 gallon into my 55, including the gravel, and as I was scooping it out, I noticed long, pink, skinny worms. I found 3 of them in one big scoop of gravel, so there must be many more. Now, I'm guessing that they have been there for quite some time, as the gravel has been in use for at least 3 consecutive years, always with the same fish inhabitants transferred from one tank to another. I've never had a problem with my fish that warrants mention here. So, I'm guessing they are safe. But I would really like to know what they are. I put two of them in a plastic baggie and froze them, but I don't have a digital camera, so I can't post a photo. They are approx. 3-4 inches long, about 1/2 millimeter wide, pink like an earthworm, and they do not appear to be segmented. It does look like they have some sort of jaw or teeth going on. Anybody ever see these before?

Gordiid worms don't have jaws or teeth, as the adults don't even eat. These are too long to be blackworms...

Can we assume that because they were found thriving outside a fishes body and that the fish are healthy, that they are not parasitic?

Have you ever feed your fish any type of live worm?
