I've personally never kept them, but have had starry woodcats in the past. The group is typically pretty shy, and enjoy blackwater conditions. This fish is being bred in captivity now, so if those individuals are available, they would probably be a better choice. Really cute little fish though. Have you looked them up on planetcatfish.com?

From what I've read about Tatia's, they're pretty shy, peaceful critters in general. Strictly nocturnal, seldom (if ever) seen by day, sort of a shame since they are pretty fish. Not often bred in aquariums, but it does happen.

These are actually great little cats. They hide much like other catfish, but will roar out of hiding for their dinner. The interesting behavior they are more recognized for is that the males have a gonopodium and fertilize the eggs while still inside the female. You can literally have a female lay fertile eggs without the presence of a male in the tank.

are tatia species schooling? I never found out. I put the honeycomb tatia in my list with the condition that they aren't.
I did go to planetcatfish and read what they had on them. They are a cute little fish and I was hoping that they would be a little more visible than what they say they are.I have not read anything saying if they are schooling or not.

They are not a schooling species, no. Fry will swarm at feedings time.

Glad you showed a pic of them. Our lfs has these in right now, along with some others i hadn't seen before - a shark type. We weren't sure which one was what. Helped a lot. Thanks!
