I can't help noticing that despite the built in filter apparently having great turnover (is it 600lph?) my tank's water looks pretty awful. There are so many little particles floating around, and there's a lot of dust on the water's surface that I just can't seem to shift.
The media is 1 coarse sponge, 1 fine sponge, 2 fine filter pads all by Juwel designed for this filter.
Considering my tank only stocks 1 common pleco and 6 (cardinia japonica?) I sort of feel the water should be a lot cleaner than this. I carry out weekly water changes of about 20% and only ever feed the occasional (probably monthly) algae wafer.
Does anybody else have this filter, and if so this problem?
Also, is it worth buying a seperate external filter or else DIYing some kind of sump to rectify this?
I looked into Eheim professional external filters, but the guy at my LFS said that the flow rate may be too high for a tank this size (180l) and that in any case the turnover of the sizes suitable for my tank is actually lower than that of the Juwel filter.
