verona nj, thx for replies.
Now aquarium guy says this is to start new aquariums not for mu high nitrite green pea soup water condition, he says I need an algae rid substance. ANy thoughts?
well, the water is green for an underlying issue (over stocking, direct sunlight etc.) You want to figure out what is going on first, then fix the issue. If not, the battle will continue.
I have found that adding Purigen (sold at the lfs, in a little baggie, or in a container) to my filter, will help to clean up the water.
Also, try having your lights on only for a few hours a day to help clear it up (maybe from 4 or 5 pm till 9 or 10)
MSJinx will also tell you that you can cut off a willow branch and put the cut end into the tank. It will start absorbing whatever is feeding the algae.
Do you have plants? I would cut down the time the lights are on and do like 50% water change. also, Bio-spira did clear water for me in the past, so i would try it if i were you.
