Mafia #36 Recruitment Thread, Who do you trust?

After it's long history of death and mayhem, the town of ACville has decided that it's residence need mandatory team building exorcises. The town residents are to be sent to a resort, just outside of town, named 'Aqua Fustuarium'. However, one participant is a bad influence, or corrupter.

The problem;
The Corrupter is not aware of their influence on others.

How the game works;
Each day each participant must decide who they trust, and who they do not trust. It is completely up to each individual to decide. It is also up to each individual to decide HOW they decide.

The rules;
1 Everyone must name one individual participant that they trust not to be the Corrupter, and one they think, or know, is.
2 If the town all decide to name the same individual as the the Corrupter, and they are all wrong, another corrupter is generated randomly. That's baaaaad. However, see 'How to Win'
3 If someone lists the Corrupter as the person that they trust, they become corrupted. This means that they begin to undermine the town, and work for the corrupter, indirectly. They still must list names, and appear to continue the game. As more people become corrupted, they may communicate with each other, outside the game thread.
4 From the third night on, the town may investigate one person. The investigations only show if someone is corrupted. If the Corrupter is investigated, they will only show as 'uncorrupted'.
5 You may not name yourself as the person that you trust.
6 If you do not post the name of a person that you turst, and one that you don't, you will UD (Untimely Demise), and be mocked for the rest of the game.
7 No outside communicating, by anyone that is not corrupted, unless it's not game related.
8 No posting PM or outside information in the game thread.

How To Win;
The uncorrupted town majority must correctly name the Corrupter as the person that they do not trust.

How To Lose;
All town members become corrupted.

It is ridiculous... ly addictive. A few things you should know to start with. Lady G, Judgemax, and Ice are pretty much always evil. Mad, bkw, DD, FireDancer, Johnlarson, and a couple others are very good and experienced players. Rb is always mad about something. That pretty much covers the last 30 games....

FYI, the 'Resort' name is Water bludgeoning (at least that was what I was trying for, I studied Latin a few decades ago). Would that be allowable as a terrorist questioning technique? I think so!

Multiple Tank Syndrome not a syndrome. While not always, syndrome is usually associated with something bad. Multiple Tank Syndrome is like saying Hemoglobin Iron Oxygen Bilateral Codependency is a disease.

People are to multiple tanks as woman are to pairs of shoes. Some people don't like it, but they go hand in hand. That is extremely true if you happen to be Imelda Marcos.

No such thing as 1 game. Once you play you're hooked. I also thought it was ridiculous when they 1st started but I read the 1st 2 games out of boredom and joined in on the 3rd. Now I even MOD games.

Now if the entire town decides such and such is the corrupter and we are wrong how do you decide who becomes the corrupter?

The Corrupter does not know that he/she is the Corrupter.

The town 'decides' by a majority vote. That is, beginning on the third night, each participant will get to cast their vote investigate someone. Whoever gets the most votes will be investigated. If there is a tie, I've written a shell script that will randomly select the 'winner'.

You may vote to have yourself investigated, but again, investigations only reveal if someone has been corrupted. The corrupter will reflect 'uncorrupted' because they began the game corrupted, and have not changed.

I decided to keep the Corrupter in the dark so that they can not possibly reveal their identity to the others. Deduction, teamwork, and some luck, will dictate how the game ends.

Does that mean that on night one it really is a crap shoot, and then we have to guess who the corrupter is based on who has been corrupted? Will the turns know that they have been turned?:nilly:

The rules are setup so that the town may not vote the same, every night. That is, if the game had three players, they could find out who the corrupter is by all voting;

night1
Player1 votes: I trust PlayerX, I don't trust Player1
Player2 votes: I trust PlayerX, I don't trust Player1
Player3 votes: I trust PlayerX, I don't trust Player1

Night2
Player1 votes: I trust PlayerX, I don't trust Player2
Player2 votes: I trust PlayerX, I don't trust Player2
Player3 votes: I trust PlayerX, I don't trust Player2

Night3
Player1 votes: I trust PlayerX, I don't trust Player3
Player2 votes: I trust PlayerX, I don't trust Player3
Player3 votes: I trust PlayerX, I don't trust Player3

By so voting, the town can discover the Corrupter in the same amount of days, as there are players. Kind of like the 'brute force' method of finding a key to decrypt something.

This example ignores the trust factor.

There's something I meant to include in the rules.

That's the plan. To start out, no one knows who to trust.

Think of night one as a 'choose your own adventure', where you can't turn to each option and pick the outcome you want.

The corrupted will know that they have been corrupted. The only way the town can learn if someone has been corrupted is by investigating them.

The town will have to work together (or not) to find the corrupter.

No one gets lynched or knocked off, every player stays in the game the entire game until the corrupter is picked off OR the entire town is corrupted...but if you pick the corrupter to "trust" you become the corrupter, so the corrupter can and most likely will change through out the game?

In the rules, 'How to win' if the town has decided that they know who the corrupter is, the town, must name their suspect. If the town gets it right, the game is over. If the town gets it wrong, a second Corrupter is generated (via another quick and dirty shell script that I wrote).

In the event of the generation of another Corrupter, the town will be notified that there are now two. In order to win in this scenario, the town must name the original corrupter. If the town names the second Corrupter, the 2nd Corrupter is changed back to a normal citizen. The 2nd Corrupter cannot become corrupted, while acting as a corrupter.

I've played games like this, in person, and they are fun, but do require coordination and thought.

The original Corrupter does not know that they are the 'bad apple'.

If someone else becomes a 2nd Corrupter, the also will not be aware of the fact.

If someone becomes corrupted, or 'turned' by trusting a Corrupter, they will be notified. Corrupted people can communicate with each other.

This is a game of tactics and coordination, where it's in everyone's best interest to work as a team.

I only partially answered your question.

1. If you figure out who the Corrupter is, you can win the game.
2. If you figure out who has become corrupted, you can use them as a clue to the identity of the Corrupter. Once corrupted, you cannot become uncorrupted.

No, communication is only allowed, outside the game thread, between corrupted players. A corrupted player may not communicate with the Corrupter outside the game thread. You are also not allowed to indicate that you have become corrupted, to non corrupted players.

So a 2nd corrupter is only made if no vote is placed on the actual Corrupter or if we vote to trust the Corrupter.

I guess I don't really see how you can trace it back to the OC when you don't know when someone was corrupted unless an investigation will tell you what day they person was corrupted.
Another thing, if I was corrupted the 1st day I would know who the OC is.If I'm turned back to an innocent couldn't I just say that so and so is the OC.

Pix, when I ran my first game, one or two folks seemed to enjoy complaining about the game more than the actual gameplay. Afterward, though, a couple of others said it was their favorite mafia game.

The game sounds a little confusing, but just run with it. Once folks catch on, I'm sure they'll have a blast...:)

3) Be polite... yes, you're trying to eliminate other players, but you don't have to call them a doofus to do so.

3a) If you feel someone is violating rule number 3... don't quit. PM me and I will discuss the situation with the offender.

3b) don't say your going to quit as a tactic... YOU WILL BE KILLED OFF AND YOUR ROLE REVEALED.

Your power isn't stronger then the Lead Vampires though so you can't stop the 1st 2 turns of the 1st 2 nights, if they are the ones protected they still become vampires.You may be turned in the 1st 2 nights but you will keep your role and work for the Vampires.

You are the Seer. Each night you may use candles, the bones of small animals, and various rituals to consult with the spirits to find evil in your village. The information you are provided only indicates the presence or absence of evil. Nothing more specific. You may communicate with the HUNTER if you find them through investigations.

You are the Hunter. Long ago, your grandfather told tales of a similar event in this very same village. After the villagers' victory, he crafted a single silver arrow. If you are killed the game ends and all the vampires you turned are returned to innocence. You will start out with YOU and 1 person of your choice at game start. IF you choose the HUNTER,SEER or PRIEST in the 1st 2 days they keep their roles but work for the Vampires.

The Lead Vampire will show as innocent the 1st 2 days/nights. He also has the ability to switch 1 time positions with someone on his team.

The LV needs to send in his choice for a turn at day start, if the Villagers lynch this person the LV loses a chance at a free Lesser vampire. This is only for the 1st 2 days. After the 1st 2 days everything can be sent in as normal.

If the top vote getter is protected by the Priest the 2nd vote getter is lynched instead.

The innocents won, we understood what happened no bigger...RL happens sometimes and you just can't do a thing about it.

As long as you play again, (doesn't have to be this one) we forgive you, and yes they usually start a few days to a week after one ends.:grinyes:

You need to remove the kidnapping in order of events.

Either way will be fine,death of LV ends game or stops turns as long as death still happen. Its not like you guys found the LV in that game anyway lol.

Either way will be fine,death of LV ends game or stops turns as long as death still happen. Its not like you guys found the LV in that game anyway lol.
