I just picked up 5 otos for my 29g shrimp tank yesterday, and so far they seem to be doing good. I drop acclimated them for 2 hours before adding them to my tank. They seemed a little shy at first, just hanging on the side for a while, but now this morning they seemed much more active. The lights haven't been turned on yet but hopefully they'll stay just as active when they do turn on. Sorry, don't have any pictures yet, but I should be able to post some around 6 is you want to check back. Hopefully all of them make it through the transition period.

Sounds cool.. When I first got my otos, i was concerned about them because I had heard how sensitive they are. Ive had them now for about 8 months and they are still going strong after a few power outages and a 5 hour move.. Hope all goes well!

Ottos rule! I've also found mine to be much heartier than reports would make them sound.

once theyve gotten some good care they can be pretty tough. i accidentally siphoned two out of my tank saturday while doing a water change :( we use a big tube and catch the waste water in an 18 gallon tub (just for this kind of thing). the two were netted out of the tub and put back in the tank with apparently no ill effects. all nine otos are healthy and eating like champs

It's good to hear that they are a little stronger then stated. I don't see having any problems with them though because they all looked pretty healthy when I got them

It's hard to get a good picture right now, but I'll keep trying. Here's one for now.

They like to move around a lot which is a good thing I'm assuming. Here's a few more pics.

Good news is they are all alive still. They seem to enjoy their environment. I was worried there might be too much water circulation with my eheim 2217 on the 29g tank, but they're enjoying it. I put some zucchini in for the first time yesterday, and they swam to it right away.

It's great you found a food they'll eat, try shrimp pellets too. I find they like some water movement too. I believe they're found in both still & fast areas in the wild.

As long as they have acclimated and are not overstocked in the tank, you shouldn't have any further problems. An easy way to check if they are getting enough to eat is put a piece of cooked (and cooled) zucchini in the tank, if they immediately go after it you need to continue to offer supplemental feed, if they totally ignore it they are finding enough algae (and microfauna) to eat. I put in some zucchini or cucumber or lettuce every once in a while as a treat and my otos ignore it even at night.

well I lost 2 due to unknown reasons. I guess it was kind of expected. They just didn't seem to eat even when I put algae wafers and zucchini in. The other 3 are looking fine though, and I expect them to live well.

Mine will not touch zucchini or algae wafers but they have fat tummies. I will keep trying just to be sure they have anough to eat. i also lost one for no apparent reason....

People say that they are hard to keep, but they survived every tank disaster I had with my 5 gal. White water (killed my ghosts), high ammonia, etc.

I don't see my otos eat the algea wafers, and the algea doesn't seem to be going down that much, but they still have fat oto stomachs and are pooping like... well, they're pooping like otos. :)

We love to watch our ottos, especially when one tries to school with the rasbora:)

i find ottos to be hardier than made out to be. i got them when i had a bit of ammonia present while cycling and they all made it through the cycle fine. mine eat cucumbers and algae wafers and they suck the tank walls and plants all the livelong day... well, sometimes they just chill out.
sometimes ill see one or two swimming with the harley rasboras as well:)

A while back my ottos were zipping back and forth the back of the tank with the corys - it was so cute!
