I have a 10g sitting around empty and am thinking of doing my first experiment with marine fish. I kinda wanted to do a clown and a couple shrimp, but methinks the tank is too small.

back on topic though, what will i need to get this set up? I already keep brackish so i'm somewhat familiar with salt, but I'm wondering if i'll need a protein skimmer or special lighting, I do want to do some coral in there so I guess that kinda limits what I can keep in there fish wise.

Suggestions appreciated :)

The only thing with starting with a smaller tank is trying to keep the water stable, it's a lot harder than in a bigger tank.

I've read your other thread so know where you're going with wanting the experience:grinyes:

Depending on the corals you want, makes a difference to the lights you need. If just doing soft corals you can get away with a lower light, in other words you don't need halides. I leave all the hardware issues up to my LFS so I'll let someone else chime in on the lights:grinyes:

You don't NEED a skimmer on any tank (I went 3 years without one) but they can help. Saying that, as long as if you keep up with the water changes on a 10g then you can get away with not having one.

Fish wise I wouldn't recommend a clownfish in that size tank, but you could certainly do one of the smaller gobies such as a Green Clown Goby or a yellow Clown Goby for example. I'm also into sexy shrimp at the moment and recommend them for smaller tanks:grinyes:
