Well I am officially happy tonight. Everyone else seems to see black bears in my area BUT ME! I caught a glimpse of one once meandering through the thick woods. But tonight while it was still light.....my son was driving me on another one of endless missions that parents must take when their sons have driving permits and drag you all over the earth for a year (only 2 months to go, but hey, who's counting? LOL) And we saw the BIGGEST bear just walking across the open field along the roadside not far from home. Awesome sight! My son says he was pushing 1,000 pounds. They are just so cool....as long as he stays over there and doesn't come over to my house!:grinyes: Anyone else have bears in the area where they live?

Very cool! I wish we still had bears here; the biggest wild predator I'm likely to see is a coyote.

When I was a kid (way back in the day), I saw one here in Pompano Beach, Florida. Freaked me out big time. It was just a cub. I still ran like H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS :)

I have Mountain Lions and Coyotes in my area, but with all the recent development in the last 2 decades, thats far and few between now. I live in the north San Berdoo/Devore area btw, just down the mountain from Big Bear. I remember as a kid to my teens literally coming across packs of coyotes, getting as close as 20 yards sometimes to them.

We have lots of coyotes now too. They come off the mountain behind our house and into the field and yip, yip, yip. My poor dog has no clue why I'm dragging her at the speed of light at 5:00 in the morning in the dark to hurry up and "go" when those coyotes are yipping. They give me the creeps and I feel like they are watching me! Hey FISHSROD, how fast you think I'm gonna run if I ever see one in my backyard? Way faster than H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS!!

My neice lives in upper Mi. and deals with the occasional bear in her backyard. A couple of weeks ago, her black Lab was barking up a storm and her hackles were raised. My neice looked out the window and sure enough, a huge black bear in the yard. Her cat walked up to the dog, batted him on the head a few times and the dog scampered under the bed LOL

Ugh bears! A few years ago I went camping...well on the way to camp we saw a bear cross the road. I got freaked and said to hubby that as long as they don't come on my site I am all good. What happens that night....you guess it a freakin bear at our picnic table snortin around for probably the mess in the crack my 3 yr old made that I didn't wash out! Did I forget to mention that we were in the tent about 5 feet away AND I had my 11 month old with us too!!! Talk about panic. I heard that bear snorting, smacked hubby in the head, hovered over the kids and hubby made a crap ton of noise to scare it off. It ended up going to another camp site and broke in the guys screen house cuz the dumb butt left out marshmallow!! UMM HELLLOOOO!!!
I haven't camped in a tent since. LMAO Next time I go camping it will be in a armored tank!

Anyone else have bears in the area where they live?

California's developing a bear overpopulation problem. The black bear was almost extinct here, but conservation measures allowed it to reproduce and a lack of competitors let it over-reproduce. Now they're appearing in parts of Southern California they've never been seen in before.

None in my apartment building yet, however. :)

we have coyotes n fishercats(creepy lil sh.ts.. they sound like a baby crying when they make noise in the middle of the night in the small area of woods behind my house) and ive seen like.. 5 deer altogether a few different times.
in the paper ive read about bear sightings in a town or 2 over from me. there was a ridiculous quote saying something about it.. i wish i remembered it. i cut the article out of the paper but my mom threw it away...
umm, ugh i wish i could remember.. but i cant.

cool though, i would love to see a bear
