I have a ten gallon aquarium with a twenty watt bulb now first of all is that too much lighting for a ten gallon? Also i want to eventually have poison dart frogs in it. If i want leucomelas or azureus how many frogs can i have of these in a ten gallon? Thanks :perv:

I believe the rule of thumb with most dart frog species is one frog per 10 gallons of tank space.

I've read 1 frog per 5 gallon. I think a pair of smaller darts should be fine in there.

what about leucomelas or azureus? And is 20 watts in a 10 gallon too much for a vivarium?

5 gallons is ok for froglets but most adult species including Dendrobates azureus do best with 10 gallons of space per frog. They are very territorial creatures that can kill each other very quickly if unmonitored in small tanks. A 10 gallon aquarium does not have a very big foot print.

The light should be fine. Frogs don't have special lighting needs, so pick out your lighting based on the plants you want to keep.

I would worry more about it heating up the tank too much to keep dart frogs.

It heats the tank up to 80 maybe 83. Is that too much?

I think that's perfect, add a water dish so the humidity rises too. Or if your substrate is wet enough, you don't have to add the water dish.

NO dart frogs need to be kept below 80-83
Try 72-76

Are you sure i thought it was 80 at the most so i'll add a little more ventilation at the back. Does that sound good?

It really depends on the type of frog you are looking to get. Leucs like it in the upper 70's to low 80's. Pumilio like it low to mid 80's as well. Most others like it low to mid 70's. I have had to learn from experience when moving frogs around (only certain one's can go in my sunroom where it gets warmer than the rest of the house).
