:help:
I think we are in for a doo doo of a time. Seems 2 more guppies have this mysterious white spotting. Today is day 3 of pima/mela and lost another fishy to whatever is going on in the tank. (I can't get a pic or trust me I would have one here in a heartbeat! I have tried for 2 days on and off to get a pic for y'all)
My Gourami and Loach are doing ok, nothing on them I can see but the 2 adult females are laying close to the bottom of the tank. Every once in a while one will move to poo but that is pretty much it for the day. The ones poo is clearish or white I guess you would say so I am looking at an internal parasite too? I have Coppersafe on hand is that something I should use for the ich? I have been told it is OK for all fish including loached and I have removed my snail from that tank and put it in the 5. If I am to use coppersafe can I use it with the pima/mela? Or do I need to do a big water change first. I just changed the water the other night almost half. The one fish has a hole in its fin so is why I would like to keep the pima/mela going but I don't want cross medicate or make things worse.
Thanks

Do not use the Coppersafe. I am glad you ask before you do something with it. You cannot house the snail in there anymore once you dose copper. Get rid of it. Any pics of the guppies with those spots before we recommend anything further?

For ich cases, I recommend table salt and heat. Increase temperature to 82-84 degrees. I used a dosage of tablespoon per 5g. Dissolve salt first before adding. That's what I did with my loach tank last time they had ich.

Will the snail be able to go back in to the tank after the salt treatment? I have already removed it. Speaking of Loach it is a hillstream loach...Beaufortia kweichowensis so that salt dosage is still ok for that? So glad there is a loach person!!!:headbang2:
The salt wont interfere or cause problems since the tank already has the pima/mela combo in it? OH and also since there is driftwood and sand substrate will that pose a problem?
I can't get a clear picture of the guppies that are effected! No matter what I do they are sooo blurry you couldn't see a spot if it was the size of the US. I am like 98% positive now that it is ich. It is on the fin area and are no biffer than a head of a pin, then there are smaller pieces and a little larger but nothing like a fuzz.

I have non-iodized salt and regular salt is one prefered or does it not matter? Oh and how many times to dose? 1 time and thats it or is there a specific dosing?

TY sooo much.

The snail will be fine after the treatment course. Wouldn't put snails during treatment as I haven't tried yet if salt is fine with them for a short while. The loach should be okay. Just dissolve the salt. Do treatment for 10-14 days minimum. If you are sure that is indeed ich, good luck with the treatment. Expect ich to proliferate quickly. Don't worry about it as they will gradually decline soon enough.

Either of those salt is fine. The iodine concentration is no longer an issue or something to worry about contrary to popular beliefs/myths. Just dose by a tablespoon per 5g. If you must do water changes, replace the amount of salt by the amount of water you replaced. Remember salt can gradually lessen by water changes. Evaporation is different and will not remove the salt entirely.

TY. Lupin, will dose tonight with the salt. I am leaving for the hospital in the AM so I won't be here to monitor but told hubby to feed. lol I have made prepared baggies so he wont feed to much. It is a daily treatment?

JM1212 I do believe they have that as well....or it is a possibility for at least the one. SOOOO hopefully I can kick one while I am gone and they will be semi better for a parisite treatment. lol

Like I said the Gourami and Loach are doing great so far and normal poos too they are my babies, and don't want them to get sick but the guppies are my sons (school project feeder guppies) so if they pass I wouldn't be to heartbroken but he would so I will try my best to save them.
Thanks all
Hugs

No, not a daily treatment. If you must do water changes every 3 days, then it's fine and you can dose salt the amount of water you replaced. I'd do 15-20% water changes. Limit feeding to once a day.

Just did the first dose...will do a water change in 4 days, wont be back till then sooo wish the fish your luck!!!

TY so much for your help:worthy:
