I have 3 marbled angles. They were just dime sized when I bought them just before Christmas. Then I found that the new Rams in the same QT tank had worms (Camallanus) and so on with rounds of treatments. After that I wanted to be sure to QT long enought to be sure everyone was healthy.
Then I noticed the smallest of the 3 (still very small) was not greeting me when I fed them and was hiding. I also noticed that the top fin was torn. I thought that perhaps the other two were pairing up. I decided to move the 'little one' into my main tank. It is very quiet community in there... but not a lot of places for an Angel to hide. It seemed to be very stressed out even two days later so I setup another tank. I try to keep an extra filter running on one of my tanks so that I can setup quickly.
Now the littlest Angel and the second largest share a 40 Gal and the third - a monster in size compared to the other two - rules his own 40 Gal.
I think they are fantasic fish and great to watch/play with.
I will be upgrading to a larger main tank very soon (shopping :) and would like to know what possible tank mates I can have with these Angels once I move them to the 72 bowfront - no live bearers please. I was thinking a couple of Birchirs and a few panda cories. What could I get that would be more mid to top level that would get along well with Angels?
I am still waiting to see if the two Angels pair up - no sign of it so far. The funniest part is the largest one - alone in his/her own tank spends a lot of time cleaning the filter tube and heater. This one is 3 times the size of the smallest one - and they were all about the same size when I bought them.

Hatchets.....Lemon tetras....just be careful to stay away from small fish such as neons that could be seen as food to the angel.

I don't keep 'em myself and am not expert (lovely fish though) but isn't this behaviour something to do with spawning ?
Yes, it is, Coler.:grinyes:
On the other hand, do not keep panda cories and bichirs together. If the latter eats them, the bichirs will choke to death from pectoral fins stuck to their throats.

single females can lay eggs they won't hatch (obviously) but they can lay eggs. oddly both males and females will clear spots.
pair formations can happen in as little as 6 months..usually they will pair up 10-12 mo. wilds tend to take longer (2-3 yrs) tho it does occur at younger ages.
tank mates cory's (look for those that prefer warmer water 80)
bichirs and cory's not
hatchet fish, larger tetras, rasboras(larger ) BN's all good tank mates.
I like the angel discus mix..but take care with that.
curious..how did you treat the camallanus?
I have several strains of rainbows with my angels and all is well. A 72g would be plenty big enough for angels and rainbows.

Thanks for the advice. Panda Cories in one tank and Birchir in another :) - no problem.
StarRider - the final treatment was "General Cure" and medicated food (although I am not sure much of it was actually eaten). I just found out a couple of weeks ago that this product has now been taken off the Canadian market. Leaving us with very few choices.

One of the comments I recieved when I first mentioned the worms was "euthanize the fish and clean the tank - don't reuse anything from it until it has been dried out for 6 months". Really good advice now for anyone in Canada... unless you are like me and could not bring yourself to do it.
Does anyone know a Vet in Canada that would prescribe for fish??? Maybe we could start a network of them ??? I wish :)

you should not have to euthanize the fish....especially on something so treatable. Unfortuantely I cannot speak for canadian laws regarding meds.
I know levamisole HCl is difficult to get. levasole is a counterpart that uses the same ingredient.
also look for Flubendazole , Fenbendazole there may also be other pet worming meds but I'd have to check.
Camallanus depending on the meds may need re-treatment after 2-3 weeks.

Its a real shame over here in Ireland - no fish antibiotics at all, and none of the treatments mentioned in this thread.

I had heard that..that is a pity ...here we can find many from a feed store...and or speak to a veterinarian and get the meds.
in some cases they are available on line.

The Vets in Canada decided that the medication was too dangerous for us to deal with. Only Vets can prescribe it and try as I may... I can't find a vet that will prescribe for fish.
It is easy to treat with the correct medication, but in order for me to get the correct stuff I have to try to smuggle it across the border. I love my fish... but that it a bit extreme.

Worth a shot, IMO.
