Unless, of course, you think it's a good stock.
40 gal, lushly planted. Driftwood for a lower pH.

Otocinclus x3
Leopard Cory x2
Black Neon Tetra x6
German Ram x2
Dwarf Chain Loach x2
Ghost Shrimp x2
Golden Apple Snail x3

Also wanted upside-down cat, endler's/platy. Buuuuuut, I know I shouldn't.
I tried to do the best I could in terms of parameter compatibility.
I CAN change this stock, I just can't decide how. I absolutely adore leopard corys, I can't have a pleco in my tank, and unfortunately I fell in love with German rams.
I went for the smaller type of tetras that still looked neat and were easy to care for, and I just can't stray from loaches. And of course, the clean-up crew.

No trimming needed except your inverts. Add more loaches perhaps and watch them in case they harass the shrimps and snails. A lot of botiine loaches have the tendency to harass invertebrates no matter what species they are. The only pleco you can add there is Ancistrus sp., Panaque maccus or the Sturisoma panamense. All three can consume algae effectively although supplement their diet all the same.

The problem with that is GETTING those plecos. My LFS definitely does not sell the sturisoma, nor the Panaque maccus. They might have the Ancistrus... but I'm not entirely sure. I don't want to mistakenly get a pleco that will outgrow my tank.
That's why I wanted to get the otos. They're easier to find and they can be kept in groups, and I'll have a big cleaning army.

i would trade out the loaches for more cories. you could add 3-4 more black neons too. then i think you would be set.

If you are in love with the leopard cories then go with more of those. I also think you could add some more black neons. Always when you get a larger school you will be able to observe more natural schooling behaviors among them.

Now, a what-if for y'all.
If I got the loaches and spared the shrimp and snails, and instead allowed the pond snails that run rampant in my LFS to flourish, would that have a better effect? Allowing the loaches to snack on the pond snails instead?

:grinyes:

Don't get rid of the loaches. They're nice to look at.:hearts:

Cool! Thanks for all your help.
The tank set-up was just a blue-print, I don't have any of these fish yet. The tank's only newly planted and my goldfish Samus is currently running the gauntlet for the filter. I put in as much media, substrate, and decor as I could from his tank and he seems to be enjoying himself.
Once he gets to be rather big, my friend is going to take him in and I'm going to complete my fishy set-up. We both love Samus and this is the only way we could think to share him XD
