substrate......do i take it or leave it?

i have to move everything to my new tank....

question is....

can i just put the sand in a bucket, wash through it with tank water ( dont plan on using much "old" tank water. ) and then re-use it. its been in tank since Feb this year. I have a goby that has keep it white, and NEVER has any algae on it.....odd peice of <rap on it...but thats it.

Due to the time scale its been in there, i would re-use it, just watch the tank parameters for spikes...
