Hi all:

i've got a 37 gallon with one clown (the other jumped a month ago) and one firefish. I've had the fish for 4 months (tank for 5). I've got an emerald crab and 5 snails. I know I want to get 2 skunk shrimp. Should I get another clown for a buddy? Or any other kind of fish? I'm hoping to get two more fish into the tank eventually and am slowing getting coral so it has to be reef safe and peaceful.

Any suggestions?

You could add another clown. If you get a clown smaller than the one you have chances are they will form a pair.

A few fish you could look at are blennies, clown gobies (and other gobies), wrasses (eg flasher wrasse), cardinalfish. I agree on the royal gramma, lovely fish. Lots of choices really.

I'd love a buddy for my clown and the royal gramma (not purchased at the same time of course). Can a 37 hold that and a couple of shrimp or is it too much? I am adding corals.

Another clown and a royal gramma would be fine for a 37. And your invert choices are fine too. You could get more hermits and snails for your cleanup crew and starfish if you wanted to. I like the nassarius snails a lot. They are very fun to watch.
