My tank got to 87 yesterday because of the heat and lack of AC in my room and started putting ice since...i got it down to 84.5 today but the heater kept fighting back because i was putting the ice bags in the sump...so I turned it off. The temp is now starting to fall more...it's at 84.2 now. How far down do you think it will go and what temp should I monitor it to until I plug it back in?

Around 84 is perfectly fine as far as the inhabitants are concerned. If the tank seems to want to stay around that temp then try to keep it there, its better to have a stable temp then a falling temp. I've found its better in hot weather to try and maintain a slightly elevated temp from normal then try and keep the temp down at a cooler weather temp.

What's the room temperature?

I am having the same problem. I have tried using frozen 2 liter bottles with success, but agree that the quick temp drops my present some problems. My solution, have a fan blow over the waters surface throughout the day. It seems to keep the water temp down within reason, and does'nt have the ups and downs of floating ice. I guess we could look into a chiller, but they cost a grip and would only be needed a few weeks a year. Anyway, good luck!
