If you want to build a pond, look into MoJo's website, www.aquamojo.com

He has an indoor pond.

most cichlids would be good...have to take care for the herons though they will come along and eat everything

how would you keep birds away and what about snakes

we dont have a snake problem and we havent had a bird problem yet either. The pond has been setup for the summer for a few years now, and we have no losses as of yet.

Keeping birds away....you can go with a net covering the whole pond...or the old fashioned way...a scarecrow. Really, it should work!

would have never thought of a scarecrow

WOW ! Verse914 they look great! I guess you can't see them very good in the pond.

Oscars also work with a pond as they are hardy fish. I had 2 that did well until Winter. I should have put a heater in. Central Florida still gets too cold for them. South of Okeechobee is ok...

The pond stays clear most of the time, but it can get green at times. When we do the water changes, it clears it back up pretty good. You can see the fish from the top and you can tell that they have grown and are coloring up nice. Its very cool, but then you get anxious to take them out :D

man that better be one big pond first off, and I hope you plan to start with koi that are bigger than your arowana otherwize the aro will look at them as a snack. Also get used to the idea of grabbing your aro and throwing him back into the pond. First time it sees something above the water line that looks tatsy he will be outta there!
