out of curiousity, how old do most fish have to be before you start to see them exhibit breeding rituals? I have a couple P. Kenyii, and a couple L. Caeruleus (sp.?) in my tank for about 6 months now all about 2-3 inches in length. They are all very healthy and active ( beautiful fin displays), but I haven't really noticed amc breeding activity. I can't say I know their sexes though, so it is possible I have all females. Can anyone explain how to sex them to me first?

on Maylandia lombardoi(kennyii) the males are yellow, and the females are blue. Yellow labs are much tougher to sex. But they should start breeding for you at about 3-3 1/2".

I have had yellow labs breed at 1" and right now i have rusties(iodotropeus sprengerae) and they are 1" and 2 females are holding.

If yours are 2-3" they should start breeding soon. That is if fyou have females and males. How many is a couple of kenyii and labs? maybe you just ended up with all males? the kenyii should be easily sexed as the males and females are different colors as verse said. But in yellow labs its much harder, you can guess by using certain thigns like how much black or other tricks but you can only be 100% certain if you vent them.
