i know this sounds silly my mate is getting a 75G tank and he wants african cichlids in there (perfect right) so he wants some peacocks and some yellow labs some nice fish but he also wants and here is the problem an oscar, i am trying to talk him out of this as i think all he really wants is something that will get fairly large that wont eat his other fish.

now he is going to try and either get fully grown africans to start with or let them become adults before he puts something big in...

does anyone have any suggestion of what he can put in there thats quite large that will not eat his fish i just can stand the thought of him putting a big o in there and eating all those fish although i might steal them get another tank and have them for free hahahahahahaha...

no really any suggestions would be fantastic
 
Yeouch lots of reasons not to put an Oscar in with Mbuna.

In a 75 he can go for some of the larger Haplochromines from Malawi;

nimbichromis livingstoni http://www.cichlidforum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1158

(both eat mbuna...but get them small and the Mbuna big and it should be ok; they will take out fry & juveniles though adults should be ok).

Sciaenochromis Fryeri : http://www.cichlidforum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1257. Also eats small cichlids if permitted.

Fossorochromis Rosrtatus : http://www.cichlidforum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1079 hits 16 inches. Will eat smaller fish.

Crytocara Moorii : http://www.cichlidforum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1061 - lovely peaceful hap; gets about 10 inches, won't eat other fish.

bear in mind rule 1 of fishkeeping; if Fish A can, or thinks it can, fit Fish B into its mouth then nine times out of ten Fish B is going to get a tour of the insides of Fish A.
