So, I went to get some LR for my SW tank, and came home with this guy also!! He is going in my 150g tank. Tell me what kind he is if you know, they don't label their plecos there, it just says "Pleco". His name is Hoover and he gorgeous!!!

Don't worry, the stuff you see is under his bag not in it!!

Thank you BLUE!!!! Yep, I posted him over at MFK to of coarse and that is what they said also. Gosh, as pretty as their markings are...they should have a better name then "common".

He looks good. We have some in Barton springs here in Austin Texas that people have let go. Shame on them but you should see these things. I saw one that was almost 3 feet long and it was massive. I thought it was a big stick at first. They get gorgeous when they are that big.

Wow Hoover is a handsome devil of a plec!

I agree with you G, he deserves better than 'common' since more than one species are called 'common' plecs.

Hoover is a Pterygoplicthys paradalis (http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=88) (links goes to planetcatfish profile :) )

Lady G, did MFK make any comments about his need for nutrition? Sunken eyes?

Do you have enough info if so?

Get him lots of zuccini...

Very nice boy you have there...

Thanks!!! No, they really didn't say anything about him, just that he was nice and a "common" and how big is he...that kinda stuff. Well, I through zuccini in there anyway so that I'll continue. Now what about the "sunken" eyes???

I actually doubt that Hoover is a Pterygoplicthys paradalis as they traditionally have spots on their fins and not the lines like Hoover has. Furthermore without a full dorsal extension it is also a little hard to get a good idea as to species as well. I would post on www.plecofanatics.com (http://www.plecofanatics.com) and ask there what he is.I coul;d be wrong as to the ID, but the lines on the pectoral fin are not normal for Pterygoplicthys paradalis.

Good luck and yes... it is a very beautiful specimin.

Thanks you! I will try and get a shot of him with his fin up...he's always out and about so I should be able to get one.

Lady G

Ok, I was able to get a couple shots of his fin. He of course isn't sitting still so they are a bit blurry, but there is one that did turn out pretty good.

I have to agree with you... after a count Hoover does have 10 rays (took a bit to verify with the pics) and the pics that I have seen of the disjunctivus are a **** close match
