hi
im new to the forum. i recently upgraded my reef setup and now have an extra 90 gallon tank laying around. i really want to put something in it that looks like a shark. the closest i have seen is a columbian shark?? is there anything else that looks like a real shark?? bala's look to skinny to me to be a shark and the columbians have the catfish whiskers :(
any thing else out there???
thanks for any help.

I wouldn't recommend Columbian sharks as their ultimate size is a little too much for a 90, anyway.
What type of shark are you looking to approximate in look? I think that you'd do best examining the Epalzeorhyncos spp. (formerly known as Labeo), but I could be wrong.

hmmm i did a search here and at fishbase.org and didnt come up with much. there was one called a redtail shark minnow but it didnt resemble a shark much. im looking for something that looks like jaws :) something silverish in color with an enlarged dorsal fin. basically i like the way bala's look but all the ones ive seen look too skinny and wimpy to be a shark.
any suggestions??? mabye i just need a bala shark that is very very plump

The Redtails and Rainbow Sharks were what I was suggesting, but I'll have to think about the conundrum that you've posed.

There aren't any other fish in the aquarium trade that look "shark-like" other than what was posted already. Talk to the man upstairs..maybe he will "create" one just for you.

I saw one tha tlooked almost exactly like a great white shark..I think it was called a baby whale or something like that though. They are very mean though and known for burrowing into other fish and eating them.

Baby whales are known for what???
I'd never heard of anything of the sort...just that they're electrical fish much like the elephant noses.

Are you thinking of Vandellia cirrhosis, the candiru?

no the fish i mean actually looks alot like a shark, it is a regal blue color with a white belly, it has a round nose and has fins and a general body shape like a great white, i was trying to find a picture of it but i cant. None of the picks of baby whales are anything like this one i remeber.

Hmmm..
The only fish that is Shark like is a shark and a 90 is way to small for a fish like that. To properly keep a fish that big you would have to get some thing that is much larger. I wouldnt even put a smaller shark in any thing less than a 180.
If you want to deal with a predator and since you are running salt water, i would probably run with a lion fish tank. :)
