So I know that Amano Shrimp are "Algea Eating Shrimp" but what kind of algea? The kind that are on the walls of your tank, or green water algea, or some other type?

Mine ate the brown algae (diatoms) when I had it. They do eat the green stuff that grows on the walls of the tank but not the green spot algae. The spot algae is the stuff that's hard to scrape off. They don't seem to be interested in the hair or thread algae. I doubt that they could do anything to the green water.

they like eating algae off plants to

They do really well against green beard algae. Hair and thead, not really. They won't do a really good job at cleaning brown/green spot algae. It won't be as clear as a nerite's abilities. Heck, I don't even really think it causes much of a dent.

Green beard algae though... they'll eat that stuff like crazy. I used to have it all over my rocks in my tank. My amanos cleared it ALL within a week.

They also eat fungus, apparently. I have a piece of mopani wood in my tank that was covered in a greyish fungus: two days after adding four amanos, it was all gone. :thm:
