View Full Version : 80 Degree Water
Yikes!...I think I need to change my pump. The temp of my house is between 72 and 74 Degrees F. My tank temp is 80. The only thing I have on is a Custom Sealife T4(lots of circulation) for my sump. My heater is even unplugged. Will 80 deg water hurt future plants? Or should I just get another pump?
Thanks - Jamie
PS Will this temp cause the my water to appear cloudy and the CO2 from my reactor to rise rapidly once entering the tank?
80 degrees is not something to be alarmed about. I don't know of any(that's not to say there aren't any) plants or fish that would react negatively to that temp.
My tanks are now at 78 - 80 depending on the exterior temp and I've always kept them in that vicinity. 'course that's only since 1966 so I should observe further, I guess, before making any rash statements.
Some people who keep Discus go about 82 - 84 and have nicely planted tanks.

My planted aquarium is (unfortunately- but it looks so good!) located in a room that sees a tremendous amount of in/out dog traffic. As I'm in sunny South Florida the room stays warm, so the tankwater is always 82-84ºF this time of year.
I realize that I keep mostly low tech plants (there's a plant list on my photos page) but all are doing very well.
I was running a tank at 86° for 2 weeks while some fish were under treatment. all of the plants were PERFECTLY fine.

I think I'm going to win this one... but only by accident and my own stupidity.
I have 2 400W MH lights suspended about 1.5 feet above my big tank. Months went by before I wised up and took the tops off the sump and tank to reduce the temperature from 92° to a nice stable 80-84° during the day.
Can't wait to by a dehumdifier later this month... :(
P.S. the plants never noticed the high temp. Plants... they're tougher and more resiliant that I used to give them credit for.
