I've just been watching a documentary exploring the wonderfully diverse wildlife of the paradise islands of Indonesia, which sit in the shadow of some of the world's most explosive volcanoes.
It showed some wonderful pictures of the reefs around there and all the different type of fish. What was amazing was thye relationships between anemones and other fish.
As I'm sure most anemone/clownfish keepers are aware, clown fish take a chemical from the anemone and rub it on themselves to confuse the anemone so that it doesn't sting them.
In Indonesia it has now been noted that cardinalfish and hawkfish have started copying the clownfish and doing the same thing.
It has only been reported to happen in Indonesia.
Just thought some of you may be interested:grinyes:
That is interesting... Was it on one of the big networks? Moreso, I'm wondering if there's an online story or article on the network's website that coincides with the documentary.

I know it's on again several times, but of course that's in the UK. I have know idea what channels you get abroad but if it's any help here is a link (http://uktv.co.uk/documentary/episode/listing_id/81207159/channel_id/3844) for the listing.
Sorry I can only tease and not provide:grinyes:
Edit: I've jsut done some googling and found that Charlesr1958 has also noted on his website "Chucks Addiction" (http://www.chucksaddiction.com/anemone.html) that sightings have been noted. it would be interesting to hear what he has to say about it.

I've noticed that in aquaria--specifically with a long-nosed hawkfish.

I too heard of such things but only in Indonesia, that is untill recently (last few years) when I started paying attention to anemones out on the reefs and found that a good many fish species have themselves confused with clownfish. Just a few weeks ago I found some small gobys (much like catalina gobys) nestled down deep on top of a sebae anemone's oral disk swimming between the tentacles, driving the resident clownfish crazy. As a side note, for those of you who keep "dominoe" damsels, they are only ever seen by me living with anemone, in fact they are direct competitors with clownfish for any available anemone, sometimes seen sharing, but never welcome, with clownfish. I'll try to get some decent photos of the various fish within anemone here. (philippines)

That's interesting. I don't remember if I had seen my dominos ever near the anemones when I had them a few years back. I wish I still have them until now if I didn't quit the SW.lol

Its funny but if I ever want to find an anemone, I just look out in the distance for groups of dominoes hovering above an area, leads me right to an anemone every time...lol

I hear ya, and will make an effort to get some but can't promise them right away as I never know when I can stay shallow enough for my camera and if I happen upon (or not) such things.
