I`ve just noticed that after adding new fish to my tank that i now have white spot. ( Didn`t QT fish first. STUPID ME !!!! ) I`m going to have to treat the whole tank ( Too many fish have it ). I`m using a Tetratec EX 700 external filter so my question is which media do I take out of the filter when treating with MEDs.????

Carbon must be removed. Carbon is useless anyway until you use it to remove tannins, meds and other chemicals out of the tank.

I use a tablespoon per 5g of table salt for ich. What fish are in your tank? If you have bottom dwellers, then you must dissolve the salt first before you add it to the tank.

You'll have to watch your clown loaches carefully. Provide more hiding places for those so stress levels will be kept at a minimum. Dissolve salt completely and gradually add it. Don't add all suddenly as the fish might suffer osmotic shock which can kill them in the process. Loaches and neons are sensitive to salt if not dosed properly.

Also bump the temp up, at the minimum 82, but slowly.

some good advice already posted. you can get medications if the salt and heat dont work. most advanced hobbyists learn along the way that carbon doesnt do anything that a water change cant do. i find "ick cure" to be the best market medicine for parasites (especially ich).

Carbon is not useless as Lupin implies, and it does do things that a water change doesn't, as jaysen is implying.

Most folks do not need it, but it provides viable functions for many hobbyists.

Good luck with your ich battle, Seasand. Go slow when adding it, over hours and maintain it for a full week after all visible signs are gone.

When you taking out your carbon, replace it witha sponge scourer, great filters
