CO2 diffusion question

Ok...I'm not going to get overly excited just yet, but I just made another batch of CO2 in a 2L bottle and within 30 minutes it is already producing. I get little bubble spurts from the bubble rock in the tank. Needless to say the tiny bubbles go up top and then pop after a couple of seconds.

With that....I take it that it is a good thing but how would you keep in the tank longer?

My newest recipe is this:

- 2 cups sugar
- add 4 cups warm water. shake until completely dissolved.
- add 1 tsp yeast
- add 1/2 tsp baking soda
- add 2 more cups luke warm water.

cap and put into place.

Thats a big yeast/sugar ratio. See how long that lasts. Im thinking not the full 30 days..

But either way for diffusion you can get a limewood airstone, good thing about this is that it gives off very very tiny bubbles as compared to a regular airstone. Place that 8+ inches under the filter overflow and that should keep them down for a while.
If you have a canister filter you can put the end of the line to the filter intake (useless with HOB filters)
Or you can get a powerhead and diffuse it that way

If you use less yeast, say only 1/4 teaspoon, the mixture will last longer..;)

You can use a sponge to diffuse the co2 bubbles even more..

It is actually not useless to difuse with a HOB. I did it in my 10 gallon and the difference was amazing. It may gas off a lot, but what is diffused into the water is still more than just letting it bubble to the surface. A certain amount is going to be gassed off anyway once it goes through the filter so I feel it is better to give it something to gas off to begin with. It worked great for me, but as I said it was only in a 10 gallon.

Silly question

What does this do for the fish tank?

Sorry i meant letting it "diffuse" via the hob aka putting the end of the co2 line into the filter intake. I found that being the least effective way of diffusing.

It adds Co2 into the water column - very useful for planted aquariums.

so this is done in addition to having oxygen put into the tank?

No. Oxygenation occurs from plant respiration and water surface gas exchange. The CO2 reactor does nothing for oxygen nor is it intended to.
