My 20 gallon planted tank has ich present in it. A few of the Rasboras have it.

Tank inhabitants:
Snails(MTS+Ramshorn+Brig)
6 Harlequin Rasboras
4 Ottocinclus Cats
1 Rubberlip Pleco
1 Betta

I set up a 10 gallon with just some gravel. I was intending to move my Brigs in there while I did the salt treatment in the 20. Then, I started thinking about my Ottos and my Pleco.
How would I treat Ich on the little Rubberlip Pleco and the Ottos? I heard that Plecos are very very sensitive to salt.

I have Quick Cure that would be alright to do in the 10, but that contains Malachite Green and Formalin, which I heard Plecs were sensitive to.

Should I remove the Betta and Rasboras to the 10 and give them the normal salt treatment, and treat my 20planted with the Plec+Ottos+snails with like.. half dose of salt or something?

What should I do? I have the empty-but-set-up 10, then the 20 planted with all the inhabitants. Who should I put in what tank to do what treatment?
:help:

Ive never had a prob using the slat teatment with otos or plecos. Am actually doing it right now in a tank that has upside down catfish, cories, a pleco, yoyo loaches and an angelicus loach..

Quinine powder also helps ich, and it doesn't affect the scaleless fish.
Do not ever salt or add malachite to an oto's tank, unless they are removed first.
If you can't get quinine (sulfide, I thiiink..), move the sensitive fish to another tank and salt away.

BadbadbadbadBAD idea with scaleless fish, esp. cories and loaches.

okay well i think im going to move the betta and the rasboras to the 10 to do the heavier salt treatment that they can deal with. im going to leave the more sensitive inhabitants in the 20 (snails, ottos, pleco, plants)
now, should i just get that quinine powder stuff for the sensitive tank? does anyone else have any other input?

i wouldn't put that stuff in my loaches.

True. TY for the input on my Ich threads Blue.

Now I have my Rasboras and my Betta in the 10 gallon treatment tank, salt is in at 1tsp/gallon. Tomorrow morning I'll add another 5 tablespoons.
The 20 is just waiting to get rid of the Ich.. the Plec, Otos, and snails are in there along with the plants.

How should I treat these scaleless fish? They are susceptible to Ich, right? I havn't seen any Ich on any of the Otos or the Plec, but if they can get it, I'm gonna treat it... I have to get it out of my tank anyways, right? Any other suggestions for treatment other than the Quinine Powder method?

I did a 2 week salt/heat ich treatment with plecos and cories. no problems at all. it's long term exposure to salt that harms them (months and years) not when used as a medication. the only thing i can caution is to add the dissolved salt slowly so it does not shock any of the fish. i took two days to add the full amount.

I agree, I've used salt with loaches and otos before, the trick is dissolving the salt first then adding very very slowly.

Salt and heat treatment for 2 weeks, there will be no problems with any of your fish.
