Ok, no pics cause they were at Wal-Mart....but they had some cichlids that really threw me off. They looked like Male Kenyi....but they had a black streak down the top of their top fin like a Lab....so they looked like yellow labs with vertical stripes down their body...what do you think they may of been, they were really pretty.

Hey, btw...I actually went to the fish section and did NOT come home with a fish (YAY, ME)!!!!

Juvenile Pseudotropheus Crabro ?

Or cynotilapia afra...there is a black/gold colour morph...more likely the crabro though...

you sure it wasn't a yellow lab (Labidochromis caeruleus) as they do display some bars at times.

OK, they looked alot like the Crabro (I just looked them up) but the stripe on their fin was JUST like the Lab....maybe they were just Labs with darker stripes...but the strips were VERY bold like the Crabro???

If I had a tank for them...I'd of got them just because I hadn't seen any that looked like them before, they were really, really nice looking (I'm thinking maybe a cross breed?) Since it WAS wal-mart, and it was their "mixed Africian" tank. Maybe I'll take my camera in and get a couple shots of them tomorrow.:grinyes:

Or maybe they were hybrids, big chains are known for that.

Okay I highly doubt it is but could it have been (Pseudotropheus flavus)

Ahhhh...of course...that would fit the bill entirely...didn't it used to be considered a Ps. elongatus....but very very scarce...unless they have a local breeder...

Nope as far as I remember they have always been Ps. flavus, Ps. elongatus has many variants that differ quite a bit. Could you be referring to one of them?!

LMAO!!! I know.....CRAZY isn't it!!! Although it was VERY difficult to not look at the bettas, I knew I'd come home with one!!! I just glanced at the tanks, and I seen these fish...OMG, I SOOOOOO would of came home with at least one...but I have no tank suitable for ACs right now, and OMG, the lecture I got last time I came home with a tank and fish....YEAH, don't wanna go there again:perv:

OMG....THAT is what they looked like Yoji!!! It may not of been that actual fish, but that is what they looked like!!!! The one different thing though the yellow was very bright like on a lab, not as dull as that one.

Well he is stressed in that pic therefore the dull coloration as would any fish being housed in Wallyworld. Thats why I posted that pic, LoL. Here are some better ones when well acclimated

no, not mine pics were on cichlid-forums.com. Check the bottom corners of photos. I dont think it was flavus either but could be if you can take some pics for us so we can confirm.

I'm more inclined to think it is a cross breed of something...can kenyi and Labs breed??? That is what it looked like though, I'll go tomorrow and take my cam.:)
