Hey
Well i recently saw this beautiful wrasse in my LFS and thought it would be perfect for my tank. he was reef friendly so i decided to get him. i asked what he was called and they said a neon wrasse, but as seen in the photos that is not a neon wrasse or is it?

Can any tell my this fish's name

Wrasse's like to burrow underneath the sand when they sleep and also for cover so its always good to provide a well established DSB for them to feel comfortable.

I'm pretty sure colouration can vary depending on which area they were caught in. Difference could also be down to lighting used to take pictures. Here's a link that shows 2 Melanurus (2nd from bottom) that are slightly different.

P.S. Whatever it is, it's a fantastic looking fish:grinyes:

Completely agree...

A wrasser requires 'soft' sand becuase they do bury themselves when stressed and/or at night. I switched from plain aragontie to oolitic aragonite for that very reason. It is little spheres that is easier on the wrasses when the bury and ltherefore less prone to abrasions from the substrate.

And as for the fish itself, I would have thought it to be Halichoeres melanurus, realize the conditions under which you took the photo, but a full shot with the tail more in view would have been helpful. Some wrasses are very similar and their subtle markings make all the difference.
