I've been looking for checkerboard cichlids for three years locally. No one has ever carried them or known about them since the one good LPS closed down when a big chain store moved in.

Tonight I dropped by a store just down the road. I've had hit or miss luck with their stock and the owner is somewhat of a donkey, but why not. I was driving by anyway!

And there were two checkerboards! Little ones to be sure, but right there for $9. The problem? I go out of town in three days for a week and a half. So, reluctantly, I left them there :headshake2: With my luck they'll be gone by the time I get back and he won't be able to order more.

Bummer.

oh no....maybe he can put them on hold for you? Prepay for them?

I would ask if you can buy them and have him hold them. They are a rare find.

My LFS always has them. They have a whole tank full now.

Yep, talk to them and see if you can buy them now and pick them up when you get back.

Thanks for the advice guys. That's normally what I would do, but I tend to work the hours the shop is open and this is definately not an over-the-phone thing. I just slid in there 5 minutes before close to browse.

I'm going to actually see if he could order me in about 6 of them when I get back. He's been carrying a lot more dwarf cichlids lately (rams, apistos). If not, there's a fish auction in Aug. and I know someone in the club was breeding them at one point.
